Trusting God Along the Way

I’m finally able to sit at my laptop comfortably for a reasonable length of time after my left knee replacement surgery six weeks ago. The invitation to sit down and write is a welcome one.

Before I launch into the task at hand, I opened my email application to send a message. The verse beneath my signature line catches my attention. It’s not unfamiliar, but it whispers, “go deeper”. It tells me to pay attention.

“Give God the right to direct your life and as you trust him along the way, you’ll find he pulled it off perfectly!” (Psalm 37:5 TPT)

If you are anything like me (and a hunch tells me you are), you’ve experienced moments when your questions far outnumber the answers you’re seeking. Clouds of doubt gather on the horizon and cast a shadow across the day.

The verse tells us to “give God the right to direct your life.” It calls out like a yield sign as you travel along the road.

On the surface, it sounds simple enough. Yet you and I often want to remain in control. We may genuinely want to yield, but looming uncertainty keeps us from handing over the reins completely.

Solomon’s words in Proverbs echo this invitation:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:5–6 NLT)

Without going into the nitty-gritty details, there are many areas of my life that have left me clamoring for direction, looking for answers, and for the unknown to become known.

At times, I feel as though I’m running a marathon with no pre-defined finish line. Discouragement knocks frequently. Thankfully, I know enough most of the time not to answer the door.

God is more than OK with your humanity and the desire for you to be honest before Him.  He has your back, even when it may feel like He doesn’t.  He wants you to rely upon His promises.

I have found that as I have trusted Him along the way, He has indeed pulled it off perfectly. As I’ve reviewed the pages of my own history, I’ve learned that He is trustworthy and has always worked things out for my good.  I would add, not in my time but in His perfect time.

The same is true for you. You may have doubts. That’s okay. You may wonder if - or when - a particular less-than-desirable situation will end. He can handle that too.

I encourage you to give God the right to direct your life and as you trust Him along the way, I pray that you will discover He has pulled it off perfectly.

May you rest on the promise of His word shown below.

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.” (Psalms 91:1-2 NLT)

I pray these brief thoughts help you. I am including a link to a music video of Honest by Leanna Crawford. Be encouraged!
