Step outside your home and look in any direction. Most likely, it won’t take long before a tree or several trees comes into view.
We’re approaching the time of year when we marvel at the Artist’s palette displayed in the vibrant colors of fall foliage, as trees prepare to release their leaves.
It’s easy to take for granted the fact that trees are everywhere, along with the many functions they perform and the benefits they provide.
Trees are among the most essential living organisms on our planet, sustaining life in countless ways. Consider just a few:
Trees produce oxygen, making the atmosphere breathable for all living things
Trees help regulate climate and manage the water cycle.
Trees enrich the soil while providing shelter and food.
Trees provide shade, reduce noise, and create stunning landscapes.
Trees are valuable natural resources, providing materials for furniture, construction, fuel, and countless other products.
Scripture often uses trees as metaphors for the human condition. Like trees, we need to be planted, rooted, nourished, pruned, and cultivated.
People who like trees endure changing seasons, storms, droughts, and periods of dormancy. Yet through it all, we can continue to grow, bear fruit, and provide life and blessings to those around us.
In this brief devotional series, we will explore the parallels between trees and our lives as we discover Where the Roots Run Deep.
